Note to GOP – if you are going to go to the trouble to create a fake ‘Letter to the Editor’, remember, if you are writing a letter ‘as a woman’ to talk about issues ‘of women’, use the word ‘we’ at least once.
For the past two days, this article, that is apparently a ‘Letter to the Editor’ from a conservative woman, has shown up at the top of my Google News search. The title is ‘If anyone hates women, it is not the Republicans’. This letter is supposedly from a woman who ‘just can’t take it any more’. She is sick and tired of the double standard. She is sick and tired of that ‘liberal media’ not covering the greatest woman of our generation – Ann Romney. The only problem, ‘she’ is actually a ‘he’.
How do I know? The language and the content.
Language
The writer of this ‘letter’ never identifies themselves as a member of the group she/he is writing about. He/She never uses the word ‘we’. The entire thing written as a 3rd person observation. If you were actually part of this group, this is just not the language construction you would use.
Content
If you read the letter carefully, you will see common male-centric, right-wing factoids. Men generally like to use facts, little pieces of evidence to prove their point. This is neither good or bad, just a guy approach you could say. This is the approach this letter takes – four factoids to prove her / his point.
- 1) Big Bad Liberal Media – Yes, the conservatives are yet again the victims of the big, bad, hollywood media. This despite the fact that FoxNews has more viewers than all the other new organizations combined. Always the victims.
- 2) Dig at Teresa Heinz – Really? A dig at the wife of the 2004 candidate? Beside a TeaParty nut, who would even think to make the point. It is just weird.
- 3) Praise for Ann Romney – Are we to believe that a woman is going to praise another woman for raising 5 children with the help of an army of nannies? I don’t think so.
- 4) The 19th Amendment – Now this is just desperate. Yes, this is a warm feeling towards the GOP that all women carry around with them. LOL The facts on this are so off, it is not worth disputing.
In conclusion, this letter is too petty, unintelligent, uniformed and written in the wrong voice to have been written by a woman. Women do the heavy lifting in society. They would not have the time or desire to write such an unthoughtful, shallow letter. Sorry Jane – you are a fraud.
