Liar, Liar, Mitt Romney’s Campaigns is on Fire

The fact that Romney lies, and lies often is beyond debate.  The clip above documents all the ‘major’ lies he has told in just a 7 day period of time.  Shocking?  If you have been following Mitt Romney’s career, no, it should not come as any surprise.  In fact, during his run for Governor of Massachusetts, he even lied about his state of residency.

Media Facilitates his Lying

Why hasn’t this been an issue? Why doesn’t the press bust him for blatant, provable, documented lies?  In a press atmosphere where sensationalism reigns king in any news cycle, how is it that the press gives him a complete pass?

A big reason for this is that he never admits lying.  Even if there is tape of him telling a blatant lie, and another tape that proves it – you will never see a tape of him admitting it. The modern media is incapable of covering any news item that doesn’t have a ‘sound byte’ to go with it.  It just doesn’t fit the modern format.  No ‘sound byte’ confession, no news.

Another important factor is FoxNews.  FoxNews does what it does and it makes a lot of money doing it.  With the exception of PBS, the other new networks, like dogs begging for scraps at the table, base their daily news coverage on the news that FoxNews makes.  This is most apparent in CNN’s awkward political coverage, however if you watch the ABC or CBS Nightly News, you will see a direct correlation of top stories.

Even MSNBC is guilty of this.  Their business model is too ‘disprove’ the propaganda broadcast on FoxNews.  In fact, they have enough material to counter, it fills their daily programming.  However, this still allows FoxNews to dictate the national conversation.

In summary, with no sound byte and no coverage on FoxNews, it is beyond the means of the modern media to even cover this story.

What type of liar is Mitt Romney?

You may not know this, but there are different categories of liars.  Some do it for intentionally to get something.  Some do it without even knowing they are doing it.  Some do it with the specific goal of controlling others and delivering power to themselves.  In any of these cases, the behaviour suggests a mind suffering from a psychological or mental illness.

Which type is Mitt?  If I had to guess, I’d would say he is 1/2 sociopath, one part compulsive.  The reason I would say this is because his most common pattern is that he will set a goal, and then he will say ‘anything’ to help obtain that goal.  Some lies are premeditated, but others are simply compulsive and made out of habit.

Below are 4 major categories of liars.  We present, you decide.

  • Sociopaths - A sociopath is typically defined as someone who lies incessantly to get their way and does so with little concern for others.  A sociopath is often goal-oriented (i.e., lying is focused – it is done to get one’s way).  Sociopaths have little regard or respect for the rights and feelings of others.  Sociopaths are often charming and charismatic, but they use their talented social skills in manipulative and self-centered ways.
  • Compulsive Liars - A compulsive liar is defined as someone who lies out of habit.  Lying is their normal and reflexive way of responding to questions.  Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small.  For a compulsive liar, telling the truth is very awkward and uncomfortable while lying feels right.  Compulsive lying is usually thought to develop in early childhood, due to being placed in an environment where lying was necessary.  For the most part, compulsive liars are not overly manipulative and cunning (unlike sociopaths), rather they simply lie out of habit – an automatic response which is hard to break and one that takes its toll on a relationship.
  • Political Cult Leaders - Political cult is a term used to describe some groups that are generally considered to be on the political fringe. Although the majority of groups to which the term “cult” (currently often used as a pejorative term according to some comparative religion scholars) is sometimes applied are religious in nature, some are non-religious and focus either on secular self-improvement or on political action and ideology.  Political cult members are very susceptible to suggestion and will believe almost anything told to them by what they consider a trusted source.  In face of indisputable facts, members can reject the obvious and delude themselves into believing what a casual observer would consider extreme conspiracy theories.
  • Nazi Propagandists - The Nazis didn’t mince words when it came to lies.  In fact they published their views on them even before they employed them.  How is that for confidence.  ”Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.” – Adolf Hitler  ”The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed, for the vast masses of the nation are in the depths of their hearts more easily deceived than they are consciously and intentionally bad. The primitive simplicity of their minds renders them a more easy prey to a big lie than a small one, for they themselves often tell little lies but would be ashamed to tell a big one.” – Adolf Hitler,  Mein Kampf
