Why would Farmers Support a Party that doesn’t Acknowledge Climate Change?

Not only do the Republicans not acknowledge climate change, over at GOP Headquarters (a.k.a. FoxNews), they are telling viewers that we are headed into the next ice age.  The GOP and FoxNews are willing to say that ‘simple’ ‘provable science’ is some left-wing plot.

Let’s be clear – climate science is not rocket science.  We have been able to determine the composition of the atmosphere for over a century.  We have been able to take the air temperature for even longer than that.  Finding a simple correlation between the average temperature of the earth relative to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere (obtained from ice core samples) is something a sixth grader could do for their science project.

To say that ‘climate change’ is unproven proves can say three things about you:

  1. You are ignorant of basic science
  2. You are working on the behalf of oil & gas interests
  3. You are a middle aged white guy that believes anything AM Radio or FoxNews tells them.

In any case, you are pathetic.

The weather we have experienced over the past two decades has followed exactly the path that climate scientist have predicted:  higher average annual temperatures; more frequent droughts; more frequent extremem weather; and larger regional temperature fluctuations (cold areas getting colder, warmer areas getting hotter).

Farmers, arguably more than any other constituant, has the most to lose from shifting climate conditions.  A shift of just 1 or 2 degrees celsius would be catastrophic to almost all farms – leaving their land either scorched, drenched or appropriate for a completely different crop.  Since ‘farm aid’ (however accurate or inaccurate the phrase) in its current form seems to supported by both parties, why would any farmers support the GOP?

By contrast, the democrats are trying to take steps to mitigate the effects of climate change.  These include promoting greener forms of energy, regulating the amount of CO2 released by industry and promoting initiatives to increase energy efficiency in both the residential and commercial markets.
