The oil industry front group Americans For Prosperity announced yet another major ad buy of $6.1 million in eight states. Their main donors – the Koch Brothers. Why do the Koch Brothers hate Green Energy? Because it takes money away from their bottom line and it makes Americans less dependent on oil.
Besides being self-serving, the entire commercial is based on lies. These things did not happen as described. The result will be millions of people down on Obama and down on Green Energy for no reason based on reality.
Here are the lies explained by ThinkProgress.com:
1. The ad claims that $1.2 billion is being used to create solar jobs in Mexico. This point was completely made up by a random conservative blogger and has been repeatedly called out as a lie. This $1.2 billion loan guarantee was issued for a large, first-of-its-kind solar plant in California being developed by NRG. However, the blogger falsely wrote that the money was being used to create manufacturing jobs in Mexico.
In reality, the jobs created in Mexico had absolutely nothing to do with the loan guarantee. The only connection to Mexico was that some of the solar panels would be coming from a manufacturing plant located there. And even though the source of the panels had nothing to do with the decision to issue the loan guarantee, the company providing the panels, SunPower, explained that most of the panels were coming from America anyway.
2. The ad claims that a loan guarantee for an electric vehicle manufacturer went to jobs in Finland. This is also a made up story pushed by Fox News and conservative bloggers. In fact, all of the money used through the loan guarantee went toward building a U.S. manufacturing facility.
Bold faced lies – and this is just the beginning. They are poised to dump millions upon millions of dollars on the same type of commercials all over the country. Lies upon lies – all with the goal of making people hate Obama (for things he didn’t even do). This is how Romney got the nomination.
There are 2 reasons the Koch Brother are choosing to do this.
1. It works. In our 24 / 7 news cycle and short attention spans as citizens, all you need to do is put out the message, no matter how untrue or completely ridiculous it is and then in a couple days put out another. The press doesn’t hold anyone accountable because they are chasing the next sensational lie. The impression has already been made.
2. Because the Koch Brother have no balls. Couldn’t they just fight fair and pit idea against idea? Nope, they take the pussies path. Spend tons of money to spread lies. This is how people can turn out when there was no father figure present in the home.
