Yes, this is how crazy the GOP has gotten and Mitt Romney is leading the charge. How far will the religious zealots of the right be allowed to go before there own party pulls them back? If someone doesn’t do this soon, they are going to alienate enough voters to be voted out of existence in 2012.
The Republican Party’s National Platform calls for the criminalization of abortion no exceptions – even in cases of RAPE and INCEST. As Republican Senatorial candidate Mourdock in Indiana went as far as to say that conceptions from rape were ‘the will of God’. Personhood laws that are supported by Mitt Romney would take this to a whole new, and terrifying level fro women.
Personhood Laws
This is something very real and very scary. Personhood laws are starting to show up on more and more state ballots. Recently Mississippi voters overwhelmingly voted a Personhood Law down, but that has not deterred Republican controlled legislatures across the country from creating bills of their own.
Huffington Post – February 15, 2012 – OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Senate has overwhelmingly approved an anti-abortion “personhood” bill that declares life begins at conception. The vote Wednesday upset doctors who fear the proposed law will jeopardize reproductive medicine. The bill now heads to the House, where it is expected to pass. Republican Gov. Mary Fallin typically won’t comment on pending legislation, but she has described herself as strongly “pro-life.”
The bill provides embryos and fetuses with “all the rights privileges, and immunities” of other citizens. Republican Sen. Brian Crain says it’s modeled after a 1986 Missouri law that was later determined by the U.S. Supreme Court to be constitutional. The bill is opposed by the Oklahoma State Medical Association, because of concerns it could affect reproductive medicine and ban certain forms of birth control.
So, if life legally begins at conception, what would this mean to women? If the bill provides embryos and fetuses with “all the rights privileges, and immunities” of other citizens like the Oklahoma law, the following would be true.
If a woman was to get an abortion, she would be guilty of 1st Degree Murder.
- First Degree Murder is any murder that is willful and premeditated.
If a woman has a miscarriage, she could be guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter.
- Involuntary Manslaughter stems from unintentional, but criminally negligent behavior.
What if a woman doesn’t know she is pregnant and conducts herself in a way that results in a miscarriage. Depends on the judge – could again be Involuntary Manslaughter.
- Involuntary Manslaughter stems from unintentional, but criminally negligent behavior.
Would your doctor have to report this to the Police? Yes.
This is the Republican vision of the future. Small government? Well, if you are not a woman I guess. And what if the GOP gets their way and let’s the state outlaw contraception (yes, this includes condoms)? Wow, somehow I thought freedom would be a bit more free and not like an Orwellian nightmare. You know masterbation is also mentioned in the Bible – is this next?
