Rick Perry says he wasn’t drunk or on medication when he gave a recent speech in New Hampshire.
“No. I was just giving a speech,” Perry told the San Francisco Chronicle.
“I’ve probably given 1,000 speeches. There are some that have been probably boring, some that have been animated, some that have been in between.”
An 8-minute compilation of Perry’s remarks to Cornerstone Action in New Hampshire has now been viewed nearly 1.1 million times on YouTube.
Perry’s facial expressions, hand gestures and comments about New Hampshire’s “Live Free or Die” motto raised lots of eyebrows, and some of the clips have been played repeatedly this week on cable news shows.
Perry told the Chronicle that it’s best to ask people who were at the event instead of “some political opponent who has put a video up.” The governor notes he got a good response from members of the audience, who were “clapping at all the right places” and gave him a standing ovation at the end.
